I guess I would start by saying I really don’t like leaving bad review. Especially not for experienced authors. Who am I to not like a book by an author with that much experience?
But I didn’t. So I’m going to share my honest opinion because that’s what they ask for. Here’s what I thought of A Deep Divide.
After being kidnapped as a child, heiress Emma Grace McMurray has seen firsthand the devastation that greed causes in the world, and she wants nothing to do with it–including her father’s offering her hand in a business deal. She sneaks away to be a Harvey Girl at the El Tovar Grand Canyon Hotel, planning to stay hidden even if it means always looking over her shoulder.
Ray Watkins arrives at the hotel wanting to impress his father by finding success on his own. Then maybe he can take on more of the family business and do something good with the profits.
Ray immediately admires Emma Grace, and though a friendship forms, she’s afraid he’s just like every other wealthy man she’s known. Then art and jewels go missing from El Tovar and the nearby Hopi House, a mystery that pulls them in and stirs up their worst fears. When shocking revelations come to light, they’ll have to question all they thought to be true.
CHARACTERS
The characters were kinda flat. Even though I did like Emma Grace the REPETITION KILLED ME. She stated that she hated rich men at least seventeen times in the same phrasing. She compared every single rich man to her father and the business men that she grew up knowing. And she hated them. So whenever anyone mildly rich crossed her mind she completely wanted nothing to do with them. Repeatedly.
In addition, everything she ever heard about God was thrown at her from a screaming reverend at church when she was a child, so she wanted nothing to do with God unless… well. Unless someone told her something she’d NEVER heard before.
Ray was an, excuse me please, AIRHEAD. He was a good character but when it came to do anything with his dad he was blind as a bat. He always suspected something but he never did ANYTHING to figure it out or find out what his dad was doing. THROUGH THE WHOLE BOOK. It was like a constant tease on the nose with no solution at all. And no new facts, just a repetition of what we were told at the beginning.
THE PLOT
I think it is like that. I think that was the issue with the plot. The story was good. But we were presented with the question or problem at the beginning of A Deep Divide, then told a long story, and then we were presented with the solution at the end of the book.
I guess I didn’t like that writing style at all.
THE CONTENT
There wasn’t any content. Other than the fact that Emma Grace’s father was murdered at the beginning of the book, but there was no details or descriptions. There was no violence, no language. There was one kiss, very mild and nothing of concern for anyone.
In Summary

That’s kinda all I have to say. Unfortunately it was the writing style that did me in, so I do not think I will be reading any books by this author any time soon.

Thank you to Bethany house and the author for a free copy of A Deep Divide. A positive review was not required and all opinions are my own.
