Hi all! Here’s a bit of flash fiction I wrote literally just now. I had absolutely nothing in mind for today’s post and then I decided to post some of my writing and all of a sudden there was way to much to choose from. I settled on what I had just written. I hope you enjoy this tiny bit! Let me know what you think and what you made of it. XD
“Are you kidding me?” He looked down where she sat. “You’re not done, you’re not giving up.”
Laura bit her bottom lip and avoided his eyes. “It’s too hard,” she whispered.
A hand appeared in her line of sight and she looked up. A smile had replaced his expression of disapproval and he helped her stand from the floor. “You’ve gone way to far to stop now.”
“But you don’t understand.” The 12 year old girl gently brushed the chalk dust from her hurting hands. “I can’t do it.”
Dustin puffed a breath of air, annoyed. “That’s the most pathetic excuse I get in this gym. Who decides what you can and can’t do?”
Laura glanced at the hand bars that taunted her. “My body does.”
“Who’s body is it?”
“Mine.”
Dustin cocked his head and crossed his arms. “Then who decides?”
Laura sighed and admitted, “I do.”
“Do you want to compete.” He said it as more of a statement.
Laura’s eyes pricked. Of course she wanted to compete. It was her dream. Another female competitor. Striving to make history when she was old enough. To become a ninja.
“Yes,” she answered quietly.
He gently placed a finger under her chin and lifted it to look at her. “Did you think it would be easy?”
She shook her head.
“Keep fighting. Keep training.” Dustin took her hands and turned them carefully palms up, “Giving up never got anyone anywhere.” He examined the blisters and glanced up at her. “Let’s get these rips bandaged up and I’ll have the class focus on lower body exercises tomorrow, deal?”
Laura smiled sheepishly and nodded. “Ok.”
“Good.” Dustin let her hands go and lead the way to the far side of the room where the medical supplies were kept in a tall cabinet.
As her coach bandaged her sore hands Laura watched his spiked hair and orange bandana. He knew how far and how hard to push someone. He knew their limits and their weaknesses.
He wouldn’t let her give up on her dream. And she wouldn’t let her coach down.
Aaaand that’s that. It’s totally 100% American Ninja Warrior inspired and yes Dustin is Drew Drechsel, I think he would be an epic coach for kids. (I know he already IS a coach for kids, but I don’t know his technics or habits, so Dustin was an improvisation) (also, thinking to do more mini stories like this possibly of other Ninja Warriors)
That’s all for today folks.
What did you think? Was it interesting? Would you enjoy reading more flash fiction like this? More poetry? Life update? I’ve got like a million encouragment posts that I need to write, so those will be coming too. COME ON GUYS! Tell me what you like to read on blogs!? What makes it the most fun to click on the title and read all the way through? I want to do that for you! 😀
~Libby
I like this a lot! Nice work. 🙂
Thanks Angie. You’re a loyal reader of my work. XD
*a million heart eyes*
This. Was. AWESOME!!!!!! I love flash fiction sooooooooo much and this one was perfecto!! Love, love, love!!!! I’d LOVE to hear more flash fiction from you! <3 And I think some life updates would be awsome too! 😀
Thank you Penny! You’re so sweet I think I’m gonna get a sugar high. XD Glad you enjoyed it. I’ll probably be doing more life update posts now, just cuz I think this blog has moved on quite a bit from being B.R.B.’s little story world. XD.
Wow. I know nothing about Ninja Warrior except for the name and watching a few clips and this was still VERY COOL and sooo intriguing!! They felt like real people. Fantastic job, Libby!! Can’t wait to read more flash fiction by you!! *hint hint* 😉
You totally should! It’s a lot more fun than football or soccer. *quickly hides to protect herself from attacks*
Glad you liked it! I think it turned out a bit more choppy than I wanted it to be, mostly dialogue. In future stories I’ll be trying to develop the settings a bit Moreno. It’s hard with flash fiction, though. And I know you know. XD. Thanks for prompting me to write more shorter stories than only a couple long ones. You’re sibling chat video was very encouraging.
This is amazing, Libby!! Great job, I love American Ninja Warrior. 😀
Thanks!
Me too!
I like any kind of posts. Especially when they aren’t always the same..tho I would like to hear what B.R.B. has been up to this summer *hint hint*
Hint taken. Will put it in for near-future posts. 😀
Awesome! I loved it… I would really enjoy reading more like this!
Aww thank you Mariah. I’ve really missed you.
I’ve written another one already, and will Ben posting it sometime this month. XD.
