Hello friends! The title says it all. I’m doing Camp Nano this month.
It was kind of a spur of the moment idea simply because I wanted motivation to actually spend time this summer writing. I haven’t been writing enough, and I really have missed it a lot. I think I haven’t done Nano in two full years now? I wanted the badge this year. 😛
The Story
The writing project that I’m working on is a story that’s been brewing in my head since a little after I published Playgrounds and Black Markers. It’s based around Jake’s girlfriend Aubrey and…. Who she is.
This story is a little different than the last two I published. For one, I don’t think I’m going to stick to the multiple POVs as I have in the last two. As I began to plot out and figure out the technicalities to Aubrey’s story, the multiple POV’s just didn’t come. There were too many chapters that would require filler plot and I didn’t want to waste reader time on filler words.
Aubrey is a special kind of character. We got to know her a little bit in Playgrounds and Black Markers and kind of left off on a bitter note. But after editing and formatting and publishing that book, (as happened with it’s own creation) my heart latched onto Aubrey. I wanted to know why. Why did she do what she did? How did she feel about what happened? Was she really that kind of person? And… what happened to her after she left Jake’s life? Jake was a good kid… she couldn’t not have seen that through his damaged outside.
So that’s what this story is about. Aubrey, and her story. What she came from and what became of her.
The Goal
I am a teacher. I teach 4th grade. I currently have summer break, and I’m taking full advantage of it. That being said, school starts back up on the 29th of August. That means I won’t have as much time to sit down and sprint to finish writing this novel.
I’m hoping once I get the ball really rolling the words will come naturally and maybe it’ll be ready for editing next summer break? Don’t quote me on that. I’m literally at the very beginning of the story and I don’t have hardly anything actually written down. Even though I have the entire plot hammered out in my head because I’ve been working it on the back burner for at least two years. I’m a panster! I don’t like to plan my stories! I want to find out what happens as I write it happening. Otherwise it gets boring and I lose interest.
DEFINITION FOR PANSTER:
A writer who does little or no planning or plotting for their story and literally goes by the seat of their pants.
So… I want to start. I’ve committed to 20k words this July. Which is a lot, considering I haven’t seriously written in… probably a year at least.
I haven’t fully committed to a date for publishing Aubrey’s story… But I hope you’ll stick around for the adventure that is writing it. XD It’s going to be quite the ride.
If you’d like to follow along/keep me accountable, here is the link to my NaNo project page. Add me as your buddy if you have an account there!
I’ll see y’all around. I have less due dates so a lot more spur of the moment posts will probably come from that. See ya!

Awww this is so exciting! Audrey is such a cool character, I’d love to hear more about her. Also totally understand about the writer struggles. I have the same thing going on. I have a story I want to work on, I just need to sit down and write it!
Also, I’m so glad you’re posting again! I missed your posts<3
You’re so sweet Marissa! I’ve missed posting for sure. Life’s been insane and with the reviews due I’ve been kinda unmotivated to try anything else. But I think I’m going to take a good long break from that and just enjoy sharing again.
