Hello girls!
Well… I pushed through and did it. I spent this last week camping on the Oregon coast, so I haven’t had access to WiFi. But I have purchased Scrivener per the recommendation of friends, and I was able to reach my Camp goal offline.

I can’t tell you how good it feels to finally have another Nano badge to add to the sidebar. I’ve missed them.
So the process was simple…
The execution was a total different story. Aubrey has taken hold of the reigns and told me clearly where I need to go with this story. This is both good and bad. It’s good because that means the story has a officially taken off. I knew that once I was 20k words into the story, I’d be deep enough to know where I was going with it, and I’d know what I needed to change or adjust. Worrying about it at 14k was legit, but too early to know for sure.
Now, I’m currently over 20k in and Aubrey is confidently progressing with her story. The first that I was so afraid would be useless is not anymore.
If you talk to some of my writer friends, they’ll tell you I’m adamant about NEVER editing during the writing process. I support going back to certain parts and making notes to change things as your plot builds and you need to add or remove details. However, I never allow myself to go back and re-edit until the first draft is written beginning to end. That leaves a lot of work to rework during a second draft, but it means you actually get the story down. Editing before a finished first draft means death to a story.
ANYWAY, got distracted there. Aubrey has shown me her purpose, and she’s revealed her plot. At this point I’m simply the person putting the words down. Which is my favorite part of writing. Just letting it go. S
So now that I’m here, I have exactly four weeks left until school starts again. I’m hoping I will hit the 30k threshold before I get busy teaching again. But I might actually commit to NaNoWriMo in November this year. That scares me. That’s a lot to commit to, especially in addition to teaching 4th grade. I will have to make that decision when I’m back to work and I can figure out what my schedule looks like, as well as where I am in the story.
In any case, I’ve really missed writing. I’m really happy to be back in the groove of things. Getting to know Aubrey has been a lot of fun. I like her personality. And I’m enjoying the bright outlook of this book. As much as Aubrey is pitiful and going through some hard things, not having the dark cloud hanging over my head has been a really fun experience.
That’s my update for now! I hope you all have been doing well! I’ll talk to you again soon.
